Language: up to 28 points

Each skill in your first official language is scored on its own, and you need at least CLB 7 in every skill to be eligible.

FSW points per language skill
CLB in each skillIELTS General Training (L / R / W / S)Points per skill
CLB 9 or higher8.0 / 7.0 / 7.0 / 7.06
CLB 87.5 / 6.5 / 6.5 / 6.55
CLB 76.0 / 6.0 / 6.0 / 6.04
Below CLB 7—Not eligible

A second official language adds 4 points if you have at least CLB 5 in all four skills, for example French on TEF Canada or TCF Canada.

Education: up to 25 points

Doctoral degree 25; master’s or professional degree 23; two or more credentials, one of them 3+ years, 22; bachelor’s or other program of 3+ years 21; two-year program 19; one-year program 15; secondary school 5. Education from outside Canada needs an educational credential assessment (ECA).

Work experience: up to 15 points

Paid, full-time (or equal part-time) skilled work in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 jobs in the last 10 years: 1 year gives 9 points, 2 to 3 years 11, 4 to 5 years 13, and 6 years or more 15.

Age: up to 12 points

12 points from 18 to 35, then one point less each year: 11 at 36, down to 1 at 46, and 0 from 47.

Arranged employment and adaptability: up to 10 points each

A valid job offer of at least one year from a Canadian employer that meets FSW rules gives 10 points. From 3 November 2026, IRCC says an LMIA is no longer needed for a job offer to meet those rules. Adaptability points come from your spouse’s language level, past study or work in Canada, a job offer and a relative in Canada, up to 10 in total.

Example: a typical applicant from India

Age 29, a bachelor’s degree, 3 years of work experience and IELTS General Training 7.0 in every skill. Listening at 7.0 is only CLB 7 (4 points), while Reading, Writing and Speaking at 7.0 are CLB 9 (6 points each), so language gives 22. With 12 for age, 21 for education and 11 for experience, the total is 66: one point short.

Raising Listening to 8.0 makes it CLB 9 and adds 2 points, for 68. A spouse with CLB 4 in English would add 5 adaptability points instead. Each skill counts on its own, so the overall band does not tell you your score.

67 points vs your CRS score

The 67-point grid only decides whether you are eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker Program. In the Express Entry pool, IRCC ranks you by your CRS score, out of 1,200, which decides whether you are invited.

Is the FSW points grid changing?

IRCC is consulting on reforms that could remove the FSW selection grid. For now, the 67-point grid still applies.

This guide is general information, not immigration advice. IRCC decides every application, and its rules can change.

Is 67 points enough for Canada PR?
It makes you eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, so you can enter the Express Entry pool. Whether you are invited depends on your CRS score.
What IELTS score do I need for 67 points?
There is no single answer, because all six factors add up. You need at least 6.0 in every skill (CLB 7). CLB 9, which is 8.0 in Listening and 7.0 in the others, gives the maximum 24 points for your first language.

Can my spouse’s IELTS add FSW points?
Yes. If your spouse or partner has CLB 4 or higher in all four skills, you get 5 adaptability points.
