TEF Canada and TCF Canada fee in India (2026)

Each Alliance Française centre sets its own fee, dates and rules, so the amount can differ slightly between cities. Check your centre’s page before you pay.

Some centres also sell single modules, but Express Entry needs results in all four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. For Canada PR, book the full test.

Where to take TEF Canada and TCF Canada in India

Both tests are run at Alliance Française centres. These centres publish TEF Canada or TCF Canada sessions on their own websites:

• TEF Canada: Alliance Française Chandigarh, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram, Alliance Française du Bengale (Kolkata), and Alliance Française of Madras (Chennai), which runs e-TEF Canada on computer.
• TCF Canada: Alliance Française Bhopal, Ahmedabad and Thiruvananthapuram, and Alliance Française du Bengale (Kolkata).

Centres add and drop sessions, and seats are limited, so check the centres near you for the next dates. If your city has no session, a centre in another city may still have seats. For the format of each test, see our TEF Canada and TCF Canada guides.

How to register

1. Choose the test and the centre. TEF Canada and TCF Canada are both accepted for Express Entry, so pick the one with a date that suits you.
2. Check the registration deadline. Registration closes well before the exam: at Alliance Française Bhopal, one month before; at Alliance Française du Bengale, at least 15 days before.
3. Register and pay. Centres register you online or through a form. At Alliance Française Ahmedabad you fill in a form, then receive a payment link, and your seat is confirmed only after payment.
4. Use your passport details. Register with the name and ID you will show on test day, so the details match.
5. Read the confirmation for the reporting time and what to bring.

Refunds, postponement and retakes

• Refunds: Alliance Française Bhopal and Ahmedabad say the fee is not refunded once you register.
• Postponement: some centres allow it for a fee. Alliance Française du Bengale says that, for sessions from January 2027, you can postpone once, by up to three months, for 50% of the registration fee (₹13,000), if you ask at least 15 working days before the exam.
• Retakes: a retake costs the full fee again, so book once your practice scores reach your target in every skill.

TEF Canada or TCF Canada: which should you book?

IRCC accepts both for Express Entry, and both convert to NCLC levels for each skill. The fee is about the same, so choose on format and dates:

• Format: the writing and speaking tasks differ (see TEF vs TCF), so try sample tasks from each and notice which feels more natural.
• Dates: a test you can sit next month beats a better-suited test with no seats until next year.
• Commit: once you choose, train for that test’s tasks. Switching late wastes practice time.

Already have results? Check your level with the TEF Canada calculator or the TCF Canada calculator.

Plan your test date

Work back from your Express Entry plans. Registration can close a month before the exam, and popular sessions fill early, so look for a date six to eight weeks ahead. Leave room for one retake in case a single skill falls short of NCLC 7.

For Express Entry, results must be less than 2 years old when you create your profile and when you apply, so do not test too early either.

How to avoid paying ₹26,000 twice

• Book only when your timed practice scores reach NCLC 7 in all four skills, not just on average.
• Get feedback on your writing and speaking. These are the skills most people miss by a few points.
• Check that your passport is valid on test day and matches your registration.
