Preparing for IELTS While Working in Mohali or Panchkula

If you work in Mohali or Panchkula, plan IELTS around your office hours, not the other way round. Join live online classes in the evening so you lose no time commuting, add 30–45 minutes of practice on other days, and spend most of your limited hours on trainer feedback for Writing and Speaking.

Why is IELTS hard to fit around a Tricity job?

Not because it is too difficult, but because the day is already full. Office hours, travel and family leave little room, and any extra commute to a class usually breaks the routine within two weeks.

Many people working in Mohali's IT City and industrial areas, or in offices across Panchkula, already spend a long time on the road each day. Adding a trip into Chandigarh for classes turns a 1.5-hour lesson into a three-hour evening. That is the first thing to remove.

Where should you start?

Start with one full, timed mock test on a weekend. It tells you where your hours should go.

Working learners cannot afford to practise everything equally. If your Listening and Reading are already at target, extra hours there are wasted. Most working learners who contact us find that Writing, and then Speaking, are the skills holding their overall band down. Use the IELTS band calculator to see how your section scores combine, and check how the overall band is rounded.

A weekly plan around office hours

This plan assumes a 9-to-6 job and live classes on alternate evenings. Adjust the days to your shift.

Sample weekly IELTS plan for working professionals
DayWhat to doTime
MondayLive online class (from home)1.5 hours
TuesdayWrite one Task 2 essay, send it for marking45 minutes
WednesdayLive online class1.5 hours
ThursdayRewrite Tuesday's essay using the feedback; add errors to your log30 minutes
FridayLive online class1.5 hours
SaturdaySpeaking practice: record Part 2 answers; 1-on-1 mock when scheduled45 minutes
SundayOne timed Reading or Listening section; rest45 minutes

That is roughly 8 to 9 hours a week. It is enough for many people, provided the hours go to the right skill.

How do commute-free online batches help?

They give you back the travel time and make it easier to keep going on tired days. You can be in class two minutes after you get home.

  • No drive from Phase 8 or Sector 5 into a Chandigarh coaching lane after work.
  • If a meeting runs late, you can still join — you are not stuck in traffic.
  • Couples preparing for Canada PR can attend from the same home.

Ask us for current batch timings; evening and weekend options are the most requested by working learners.

Why focus your limited hours on Writing feedback?

Because Writing is where practice without feedback wastes the most time. You can write fifty essays and repeat the same five mistakes.

Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1, so start there. Write one essay, get it marked by a trainer, fix the marked sentences yourself, and only then write the next. One marked and corrected essay a week beats four unmarked ones. For the common problems, see Task 2 mistakes that hold people at 6.5, and for how feedback should look, our page on trainer-marked IELTS writing.

How can you practise Speaking with a busy schedule?

Use short, daily bursts and one real mock with a human. Speaking improves with repetition and correction, not long sessions.

  • Record one Part 2 answer (2 minutes) on your phone after dinner. Listen once and note one thing to fix.
  • Talk through your day in English for five minutes — in the car before you leave for work, if that helps.
  • Take 1-on-1 mock interviews so a trainer can hear hesitation, pronunciation and answer structure.

General Training or Academic?

Most working professionals in the Tricity preparing for Canada PR need IELTS General Training. Check before you study, because Task 1 in Writing is different. Read General vs Academic for Canada PR.

Our recommendation for working professionals

If you work in Mohali or Panchkula, we recommend PrepEve's Live Coaching: live classes you join from home, where a trainer finds where you lose marks and corrects you, so your limited hours count.

  • Alternate-day live sessions of 1.5 hours, where a trainer finds and fixes your specific mistakes.
  • Unlimited trainer-marked writing evaluations.
  • 1-on-1 speaking mock interviews and 5 full-length mock tests.
  • WhatsApp doubt support, so a question at lunch doesn't wait for the next class.

Live Coaching is ₹14,999 for 30 days. If your schedule is very irregular, 1-on-1 Mentorship (₹19,999) adds a dedicated coach and a custom study plan. Taranjeet went from 6.5 to 8.5 in 30 days for his Canada PR application; results vary with each learner's starting point and effort. See how this works across the Tricity in our guide to IELTS coaching for Mohali and Panchkula learners.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours a week do I need for IELTS while working?
Many working learners manage with about 8 to 10 focused hours a week: live classes plus short daily practice. What matters more is spending those hours on your weakest skill.
Can I prepare for IELTS in one month while working full-time?
It depends on your starting level and target. If you are within half a band to one band of your target, a focused month with marked writing and speaking mocks is realistic for many people.
What should I study first with limited time?
Take one full mock test first. Then put most of your hours into the lowest-scoring skill, which for many working learners is Writing, followed by Speaking.
