Language points

Each English skill earns points by CLB level: 34 per skill at CLB 10+, 31 at CLB 9, 23 at CLB 8 and 17 at CLB 7 for a single applicant. Convert your IELTS scores to CLB. French adds second-language points and, at NCLC 7 in all four skills, a 50-point bonus. Calculate your French points.

What score do I need for an invitation?

There is no fixed pass mark. Each round of invitations has its own cut-off, and some rounds invite only certain categories, such as French speakers. Compare your estimate with the latest rounds on IRCC's page.

Frequently asked questions

How is the CRS score calculated?
It adds up four parts: core human capital (age, education, languages, Canadian work experience), spouse factors, skill transferability and additional points. The maximum is 1,200.
Do job offers still give CRS points?
No. Job offer points were removed from the CRS on 25 March 2025.
How many points is a provincial nomination?
600 points, which usually puts a candidate above the cut-off of most rounds.
What is the fastest way to raise my CRS score?
For most people it is language: CLB 9 in all four English skills, or adding French at NCLC 7. See how many points each move adds.
Is this the official CRS calculator?
No. It is an estimate based on IRCC's published tables. Use IRCC's own tool to confirm your score before you create a profile.
