IELTS Mock Test

An IELTS mock test is a full practice exam taken under real conditions: all four sections, real timing, no breaks to check answers. It shows your likely band and, more importantly, which mistakes cost you marks. Listening and Reading you can mark yourself; Writing and Speaking need a trainer to mark them against the official criteria.

PrepEve coaches IELTS live online. Trainers find where you lose marks and fix it with you.

What is an IELTS mock test?

A mock test copies the real exam: the same sections, question types and timing. Unlike a single practice exercise, it also tests your stamina and time management across the whole paper. See the IELTS exam pattern for the full structure.

Where can you take an IELTS mock test?

  • Free official samples: ielts.org and the IDP and British Council IELTS websites publish free practice questions and tests.
  • Cambridge IELTS books: full past-style papers with answer keys, good for timed Listening and Reading mocks.
  • Our free sample paper: try every question type in the IELTS sample paper with answers.
  • With a coaching program: mocks marked by a trainer, including Writing and Speaking.

How to take a mock test under real conditions

  1. Do Listening, Reading and Writing in one sitting, in the real order, without breaks.
  2. Play Listening recordings once only.
  3. Use the real time limits and stop when time ends.
  4. For computer-delivered IELTS, practise on screen; for paper, write by hand.
  5. Do Speaking with a person, not by reading questions to yourself.

How to use your mock test results

The score matters less than the pattern of mistakes. After each mock:

  • Listening and Reading: for every wrong answer, note the reason: spelling, word limit, distractor, time, or vocabulary.
  • Writing: get both tasks marked against the four criteria and rewrite one paragraph using the feedback.
  • Speaking: record yourself and list repeated grammar slips and filler words.
  • Plan: spend the next 1–2 weeks on the top two mistakes only, then take the next mock.

Convert your scores with the IELTS band calculator.

How many mock tests should you take?

Enough to see your mistakes shrinking. For most students, a first mock to find the gap, then one every week or two, works better than daily full tests. Taking mocks without reviewing them repeats the same errors. In your last week, one full mock is usually enough.

Frequently asked questions

Is a mock test score the same as the real IELTS score?
It is an estimate. Listening and Reading mock scores are usually close if you used real conditions. Writing and Speaking estimates are only reliable when a trained marker scores them.
Can I take an IELTS mock test online for free?
Yes. Official IELTS websites publish free sample tests, and you can use our free sample paper to practise every question type.
When should I take my first mock test?
Early, before you start preparing in depth. It shows which section to focus on first.
Does PrepEve offer speaking mock tests?
Yes. Live Coaching and 1-on-1 Mentorship include 1-on-1 speaking mock interviews with a trainer.
